SUMMIT, NJ — Summit is announcing the date of its 9th Annual Earth Day Clean-up on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. The rain date is Sunday, April 19.
Members of the community, individuals and groups, are invited to pitch in and help beautify Summit’s parks and open spaces. The clean-up is sponsored by the City of Summit Environmental Commission and is conducted in partnership with the Washington Area Association, Briant Park Olmsted Conservancy, and Summit GreenFaith Circle.
According to Division of Public Works Superintendent Paul Cascais, last year 140 volunteers of all ages collected an estimated 1.23 tons of trash and debris from City parks and open spaces. Volunteers also removed invasive plants and laid wood chips on trails.
City sites that will be part of the Earth Day Clean-up include portions of Wilson Park, Martin’s Brook, and the open spaces surrounding the Transfer Station near Mount Vernon Road, Constantine Place and Risk Avenue. Union County sites in Summit that will be part of the Clean-up include Passaic River Park, Briant Park, and Hidden Valley Park.
To register a group for participation, email [email protected]. Individuals and walk-ins are welcome at Briant Park and Martin’s Brook on Saturday, April 18, between 9 a.m. and noon.
Participants are asked to bring work gloves and a beverage. Community service hours are available.
