Margaret Lillian Carl of Fitchburg, MA passed away on Thursday, Oct 11, 2012 in the Golden Living Nursing Home with her family by her side, after a year battle with cancer. Her husband, Alfred R. Carl, Jr, died in 2002.
Margaret was born on 10 October, 1927, in Staten Island, NY, daughter of Harold and Lillian (Miller) Hafstad. She grew up in Staten Island and moved to Union Township, NJ for in 1948 until 2003.
Margaret is survived by her brother, Harold Hafstad and his wife Eleanor of Valley Cottage, NY; her sister-in-Law, Janice Brtek of San Diego, CA; daughter, Tracy Koutonen and her husband, John of Fitchburg; her son Roger Carl and his wife, Carol of Fitchburg; her son Edward Carl of Wilmington, DE; four grandsons, Jacque Carl and his wife, Rissa of Petersham, MA; Benjamin Carl and his wife, Lauren of Cumberland, RI;Zachary Koutonen and Kyle Koutonen, both of Fitchburg; and two great grandsons, Owen and Jude; and many nephews and nieces. She will be missed by her close friend and cousin, Joan Brown of Manhatten, NY.
She will be missed by the many friends in Union Township, NJ. She was an active volunteer in the Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church, Union Township, NJ, as Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts and Meals-On-Wheels program.
Margaret adored her Obedience Trial Champion Irish Setter, Romaine Red, attending many East Coast AKC events. She always looked on the bright side and was a source of strength and encouragement.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, October 15, 2012 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Lavery-Chartrand-Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St, Fitchburg, MA. Interment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg, MA.
