ROSELLE – Before the Roselle Catholic girls’ volleyball team held its 5th annual “Spike Breast Cancer” last Thursday at The Lions’ Den, the RC girls’ soccer team hosted Benedictine Academy of Elizabeth at Chakey Field.
Before the color pink dominated the RC gymnasium, the girls’ soccer team did its part to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“The girls all purchased socks for the game,” said RC coach Gary Carvalho, who’s assisted by RC alumnus Liz Lanigan. “We called it kicking cancer.”
Like the girls’ volleyball team later that night, the girls’ soccer team was victorious. Ema Diaz played a through ball to Elizabeth Del Pino, who connected, giving Roselle Catholic a 1-0 victory.
RC sophomore goalie Adia Ledbetter posted the shutout, with help from defender Megan Maenza. Roselle Catholic’s girls’ soccer players wore pink socks for the game to help support the volleyball program’s “Spike Breast Cancer” event.
