M. Murray Mantell, 91, died on Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Veterans Hospital at Lyons, Basking Ridge, NJ.
Born in Newark, NJ, Mr. Mantell had lived in Union, since 1957. He was a graduate of South Side High School, class of 1940. Mr. Mantell served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II (1942 to 1945), with tours at Anzio in Italy, and North Africa. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster.
Mr. Mantell was the owner/operator of Regent Home Furnishings, Sales and Financing, Union. He was a member of Temple Sha’arey Shalom, Springfield, NJ, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 40, Union, and a member of the Twin Brooks Country Club, Watchung, NJ.
Mr. Mantell was the beloved husband of Eleanor (nee Pierce); devoted father of Bruce Mantell and his wife, Ellyn of Watchung, NJ; his daughter, Mindy Mantell Karden of Basking Ridge, NJ; loving and proud grandfather of Alison Gollin and her husband, David, Emily Golden and her husband, Jeremy, and cherished great-grandfather of Jake, Jessie, Maddie, and Max.
Services were held on Monday, February 11, 2013, at Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vauxhall Rd., Union, NJ. Interment was at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ.
