Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre in Summit running Improv for Business class for adults beginning Feb. 26

SUMMIT — Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, professional theater in Residence at the Oakes Center in Summit, will offer an Improv for Business class for adults one afternoon each month at MONDO, with the first class beginning on Feb. 26.

Artistic Director Laura Ekstrand from Livingston will teach this 4-session class, running Thursdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 26, March 26, April 30 and May 28.

Held at MONDO, 426 Springfield Ave. in Summit, the class uses the technique of improvisation to develop skills that all professionals need: listening sensitively, responding spontaneously under unfamiliar circumstances, and presenting and promoting ourselves well when we don’t know exactly what the other person’s needs and interests are. Attendees will learn how to turn these tricky situations into opportunities for them to shine and to express themselves.

The group will participate in exercises and games designed to improve their ability to listen, read body language, and truly collaborate.

This class is an opportunity for those who participated in the Lunch and Learn workshop and also for new students, and promises to be an enjoyable, unique way to unlock their individuality and to connect with more immediacy and openness.

Ekstrand has been the Artistic Director of Dreamcatcher for the past twenty years, with thirteen years of experience as an improv performer and teacher. The cost for this class is $120.

Parking is available in the garage behind the building, in nearby municipal lots and on the street. The facility is wheelchair accessible. To register for the classes or for information on any of Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre’s programs, visit www.dreamcatcherrep.org or contact Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre at The Oakes Center, 120 Morris Ave., Summit, 908-514-9654.

Dreamcatcher was founded in 1994, and is a non-profit professional ensemble of actors who build community with the audience by sharing life-affirming stories in an intimate environment.

They seek to expose theatregoers to ideas and lives like and unlike their own, to awaken their imaginations and create empathy for others.

The company focuses on deepening the experience of our patrons by supplementing the performances with personal contact through receptions, talkbacks, and interactive programs.

Dreamcatcher’s core company of professional local actors performs contemporary work that entertains and challenges, and has at its heart a belief in the essential goodness of people. The company’s activities include mainstage productions, improvisational comedy and cabarets, new play readings and a variety of educational and senior outreach programs.
