Majestic Winds to play a fall concert at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Westfield

Majestic Winds-jpegWESTFIELD — On Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m., Majestic Winds, the professional wind band of the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts, will perform a fall concert at Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at 229 Cowperthwaite Place in Westfield.

This event is open to the public and while there is no charge for admission, a freewill offering will be gratefully accepted. The Majestic Winds will be under the direction of Howard Toplansky, a staff instrumental music instructor at the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to perform this concert at the Redeemer Lutheran Church and hope it will be one of many,” said Toplansky. “Vanguard” Overture by Frederic Curzon, and Highlights from “King and I” by Richard Rodgers will be featured on this program.

The program will also offer “Invitation to the Dance” by Carl Maria von Weber and several fine marches, which include “Spirit of Independence” by Abe Holzmann and “The Black Horse Troop” by John Philip Sousa. Rounding out this concert will be Furiant from “The Bartered Bride” by Bedrich Smetana, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” by Jerome Kern and “Pasquinade” by Louis Moreau Gottschalk.

Featured saxophone soloist Frank Narucki will perform “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” by George Gershwin.
