MOUNTAINSIDE – The weekend of Oct. 19-20 marks Union County’s Four Centuries in a Weekend event and the historic Deacon Andrew Hetfield House in Mountainside has no shortage of activities for visitors. The Hetfield House will be open for visitors on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 20 from noon to 5 p.m.
During the weekend, docents will be on hand to discuss the history of the Deacon Andrew Hetfield house as well as the Levi Cory House which will be moved next to the Hetfield House on Nov. 2. Many new exhibits have been established at the Hetfield House highlighting the history of Mountainside and the surrounding area. Tours will be ongoing throughout the weekend.
Visitors are welcome to check out the newly established “Village Shop” featuring crafts, new and vintage everyday and holiday décor items, stationery and ornaments – all for sale at very reasonable prices. Proceeds go directly to the move and restoration of the Levi Cory house. In the future, the “Village Shop” will be relocated to the Levi Cory house.
On Sunday, Girl Scouts will be on hand demonstrating Colonial Rag Dolls. Visitors can learn how to make their own Colonial Rag Doll to take home. The open house and all activities are free to visitors and fans of Mountainside and Union County history.
The Deacon Andrew Hetfield House is located at Constitution Plaza adjacent to Mountainside Free Public Library.
The Mountainside Restoration Committee is a committee of volunteers governed by Mountainside whose purpose is to maintain the Deacon Andrew Hetfield House, save and restore the Levi Cory House and collect and save historic information and items from destruction.
