Conor Halpin, varsity lacrosse player
“Conor Halpin has had tremendous start to his senior season this year, and a tremendous impact on our team’s improvements and successful first quarter/half thus far. He is contributing and leading the way for us in scoring, possession of the ball, with his excellence in facing off and collecting ground balls. He came into the preseason in March fresh off of the wrestling mat, as he finished up a very successful CHS career there by qualifying for the wrestling state tournament down in Atlantic City. Success there lead right into his excellence of play on the lacrosse field for us and we could not have been happier.”

What is your favorite part of lacrosse?
“Shooting the ball. There’s nothing better than winding up for a time and room shot and hitting a corner. It gets all the fans up of their feet cheering and the rest of the team excited.”
In what way has the sport benefited you?
“Lacrosse has taught me discipline and teamwork, which are valuable life skills. It has also benefited me from allowing me to get a scholarship for college.”
What is your biggest challenge when playing lacrosse?
“Being able to keep your head up after making a mistake. It’s very easy to get down on yourself, but if you believe in your training and your teammates, then you will realize that the only person who can beat you is yourself. It’s a matter of keeping your head up and making the next play.”
How do you get ready for a lacrosse game?
“By stretching my body, so I feel loose and light on my feet. From there, I like to warm up my hands by playing catch with a teammate and then, of course, shooting on the net to dial in my shot.”
What’s your favorite memory of this season?
“Beating Scotch Plains and winning the Coles Cup. Not only is Scotch Plains in our county, but they are one of our biggest rivals. It felt good to beat them once again, after losing in the past years.”
Who are your favorite professional athletes?
“Kyrie Irving and Saquon Barkley. Both athletes have a very competitive spirit and a hard work ethic.”
What is your favorite subject in school?
“Technology. I love building robots and programming them to perform certain functions.”
What other hobbies do you have?
“I like fishing, traveling and hanging with my friends.”
What are your plans after high school?
“I plan on continuing my lacrosse career at Stevenson University, with a major in biomedical engineering.”
