CRANFORD ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Lauren Williamson, varsity soccer player

“Lauren is beyond deserving of this recognition. She’s worked hard all season long, she was a fantastic leader for our team, all while having her best season of soccer. She will continue to be successful going into college in anything she chooses to pursue!”
— Coach Andrew Gagliardo

What is your favorite part of girls soccer?
“I love the camaraderie and playing on a team with my friends and schoolmates. It’s so much fun, and being able to represent my town is rewarding.”

In what way has the sport benefited you?
“Playing any sport is beneficial in that it teaches teamwork and how to work together with others to achieve a common goal…and that goal is winning. Sports have taught me leadership and discipline as well.”

What is your biggest challenge in soccer?
“Since I am a dual sport athlete, my biggest challenge is juggling soccer and basketball while continuing to achieve academic success.”

How do you get ready for a soccer game?
“I usually hydrate the night before games. Another big part of me bringing my ‘A’ game is taking time to prepare mentally. I also listen to music. I don’t like to each much before my games, so I settle on eating something light like goldfish.”

What’s your favorite memory of this season?
“My favorite memory of this season was being conference champions! Cranford girls soccer hasn’t been conference champs since 2000, so accomplishing something like that with my team was super-exciting and well-deserved!”

Who are your favorite professional athletes?
“One of my favorite professional athletes is Derek Jeter. I grew up watching baseball, and I have been a Yankees fan my whole life! I also love Christie Rampone, who is from NJ and is the former captain of the USWNT! I met her when I was younger and I attended her soccer camp.”

What other hobbies do you have?
“I love to go to the beach, hang out with friends and spend time with my family! I also play basketball and I love to go on runs.”

What are your plans after high school?
“After high school, I plan on attending a great college academically, while pursuing an engineering major. I will also be hopefully continuing my soccer career at the collegiate level.”

What is your favorite subject in school?
“I really enjoy math and science! I have always loved problem solving and experimenting. These subject areas will definitely help me when it comes to engineering.”
