The Union Post 35 Senior American Legion baseball team did well to win one game in State Finals competition that took place last week at Moody Park in Ewing.
Union qualified for the first time since 2005, advancing after finishing as the runner up in District 2 at C0mmunity Park in North Brunswick.
Brooklawn Post 72 captured the championship for the fourth straight season.
Union’s final overall record this summer was 20-5, including 16-2 to win the Union County championship and 3-1 in District 2.

NOTES: Brooklawn Post 72 captured the state championship
for the fourth straight season. The last team other than Brooklawn
to win the state title was Flemington Post 159 in 2009.
Lyndhurst Post 139 won it in 2008, Edison Father & Son in 2007,
Hamilton Post 31 in 2006, River Vale in 2005, Chester Post 342
in 2004, Haddon Heights in 2003, Pequannock in 2003 and
Brooklawn in 2001.
Union Post 35 reached the state finals for the first time since 2005
when they were contested at Breslin Field in Lyndhurst. Like
last week, went 1-2.
At Moody Park in Ewing, Union fell to eventual champion
Brooklawn 6-0 in its first game before rebounding to oust
District 1 runner up Vailsburg 14-3. Union was then ousted
by Flemington 6-3 in extra innings, downed in eight frames.
