Stephanie Giameo, Roselle Park High School Class of 2011, has already made her mark on the Division 1 gymnastics team at the University of Maryland. Now the Maryland student-athlete is ready to add to her already blossoming legacy.
Giameo concluded her sophomore campaign last year by ranking No. 8 on balance beam to earn All-America status for the NCAA’s regular season.
Her average for the year in that event was an impressive 9.9. Giameo was also ranked No. 1 in the EAGL (East Athletic Gymnastics League) for the year. Her high score of 9.950 tied the school record.
Giameo is the first Maryland gymnast to earn All-America honors as a sophomore. She will be one of three team captains this season.
Giameo performed all season as an All Around gymnast, competing in all four events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. She finished the year ranked No. 35 All Around in the NCAA with an average of 39.205 and second in the EAGL.
Other schools in the EAGL are Rutgers, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, George Washington, New Hampshire and Towson.
Giameo was voted the 2013 Gymnast of the Year in the EAGL, sharing the title with Elizabeth Durkac from the University of North Carolina and was also voted a Maryland co-MVP along with teammate Kesley Cofsky.
Maryland finished ranked No. 22 in the NCAA, the highest finish in program history, and No. 1 in the EAGL.
Giameo also earned First Team All Academics for the year, making the Dean’s List with a 3.74 GPA last semester. In July, she was accepted in the Robert H. Smith School of Business, majoring in Accounting.
