Professionally, Marion A. Fichter was an RN, extremely proud of her profession and of the rigorous training she received at Presbyterian Hospital in Newark, NJ.
As a lady Marion was generous, quick-witted, diminutive, determinedly independent, feisty, opinionated, well-read, and refined in her tastes.
As a friend she was loyal, fun, hospitable and generous.
As a surrogate grandmother she was warm-hearted, quick to help with schoolwork when asked, gentle but not a pushover, loving and mischievous.
Socially, she loved spirited banter, dry humor, greeting cards, travel and dining out. If ever you told her you had to take off (as in going somewhere), she was quick to ask, even in her last days, “What’s coming off first?!”
At ninety-eight she outlived her husband, five siblings and one child, so her friends were her family. She enjoyed an angel sent from God, Helen Marshall, whose faithful, daily service allowed her to live at home years longer than would otherwise have been possible.
Her friends will miss her very much.
