SCOTCH PLAINS –Union Catholic recently announced that Katrina Springer of Roselle Park has been selected as the 2013 recipient of the Eldon M. Hammeke Scholarship.
The scholarship was established in memory of Hammeke by his wife Grace, and is supported by the Knights of Columbus Summit Council #783, of which Mr. Hammeke was an active member.
The award is presented every year to one current freshman student at a Catholic high school and is renewable for the recipient’s remaining three years at the school.
Springer was chosen based upon her successful integration into Union Catholic, good grades, and her response to the call to “become all God calls you to be” at Union Catholic.
She has demonstrated avid enthusiasm about the beginning of her freshman year and is already a member of the Student Movement Against Cancer and Hearts for Heroes clubs, is on the Forensics team, and plays on the school volleyball team.
Past recipients still attending Union Catholic include Sophomore Nick Birritteri of Linden, Junior Danielle Cusick of Edison and Senior Arthur Wright of Woodbridge.
For 50 years, Union Catholic High School has earned its reputation as one of New Jersey’s foremost Catholic secondary schools. For more information, visit unioncatholic.org.
