Special Olympics New Jersey seeks volunteers for Fall events

LAWRENCEVILLE — Special Olympics New Jersey is seeking volunteers for various upcoming fall events, including local competitions, fundraisers and developmental programs.

Specifically, volunteers are needed in local communities throughout the state to help with leagues and sectionals, Unified soccer, developmental tennis and swimming, and the Young Athletes program. Volunteers are also needed for the statewide Fall Sports Festival held at various Mercer County locations on Oct. 19, Oct. 24, Nov. 2 and Nov. 3.

In addition, volunteers are needed for two fundraising events: the Plane Pull at Newark Liberty International Airport on Oct. 5 and Jingle All the Way 3K in Lawrenceville on Dec. 8.Positions, locations and hours vary based on each specific event.

Volunteers must register online at www.sonj.org under “Volunteer” or e-mail [email protected]. The online system allows volunteers to view available positions and sign up for the shift they are interested in. Positions are available for volunteers ages 14 and above.

Special Olympics New Jersey provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in 24 Olympic-type sports for more than 23,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, completely free of charge, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
