RWJ Rahway Foundation elects 2014 officers

Widmer photoRAHWAY — The RWJ Rahway Foundation recently announced the 2014 Board of Trustee officers according to Marlene Lubinger, foundation president.

Michael Widmer is chairman and has served as the treasurer and Finance Committee chairman. A member of the Golf Classic Committee, Widmer served as honorary chairman in 2007.

Widmer is executive vice president of Northfield Bank, which is committed to making a positive impact on the communities it serves and prides itself on the support it is able to give to local organizations. He resides in Monroe Township with his wife, Laura.

Bernice “Bunny” Bowen will serve as vice chairperson. She joined the Foundation in 1999. Bowen served as chairperson from 2011 to 2013. During her tenure the Foundation grew and the Heritage Society was launched.

Bowen has served the Foundation in many capacities including vice chairperson and secretary. She is a member of the Foundation’s Finance and Bylaws Committees, as well as the Rose Ball and Golf Classic. Bowen has been a Fashion Show Committee member since its inception. She resides in Clark with her husband, John.

Bowen is a New Jersey Real Estate broker and is Broker/Owner of Bowen Realty, Clark, and has served on the Board of the Union County Arts Center.

Joseph “Joe” Gibilisco, treasurer joined the Foundation in 2003 and served as chairman from 2008 to 2011. He is a member of the Finance and Nominating Committees, most recently serving as chair of Nominating, and is also a member of the Rose Ball Committee.

Gibilisco is the Owner/Operator/Manager of Lehrer-Gibilisco Funeral Home in Rahway. He has served on the board of numerous local organizations, including the Rahway Geriatric Center, Rahway Education in Excellence, Rahway PAL, Rahway YMCA and the Union County Red Cross.

He is also a member of the Rahway Planning Board and he resides in Rahway with his wife, Mary Ann Williams.

Michele Chen, secretary, joined the Foundation in 1993 and served as chairman from 1997 to 1998. Chen served as vice chairman from 2011 to 2013.

She is a member of the Finance and Nominating Committees, as well as the Rose Ball, Golf Classic and Fashion Show Committees. Chen was co-chair of the first Fashion Show, and was instrumental in its continued success. Plans are underway for the 23rd annual event in November. Chen is married to cardiologist, Dr. Michael Chen, a long-time physician and Board member at RWJ Rahway.

According to Lubinger, RWJ Rahway is the only area hospital to be graded ‘A’ for patient safety four times in a row by The LeapFrog Group, a national organization of employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.

The Hospital was founded in 1917 as a not-for-profit hospital, with 265 licensed beds, including acute, sub-acute and long-term acute care. RWJ Rahway serves over 15 municipalities in greater Union and Middlesex Counties.
