Homicide Task Force investigating Plainfield homicide

PLAINFIELD — A homicide in Plainfield is under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park announced yesterday.

The victim, 25-year-old Rashad Daye of Green Brook, was pronounced dead Wednesday morning at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Several hours earlier, at approximately 5:33 a.m. Wednesday, a Plainfield police officer heard multiple gunshots fired in the area of Park Avenue and East Ninth Street in Plainfield.

Arriving patrol units found Daye suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was rushed to the hospital.

A joint investigation into the death of Daye is being conducted by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Division. As of early Wednesday afternoon no arrests had been made, and a motive for the shooting remained under investigation.
