Open House scheduled by the Jardine Academy in Cranford for June 16

CRANFORD — The Jardine Academy is hosting an open house on June 16 at 8:30 a.m. The open house will be at 75 Rod Smith Place, in Cranford.

The Jardine Academy provides elementary and secondary education for children and young adults ages 3-21 with multiple disabilities. The curriculum is aligned with the New Jersey Common Core Standards and focuses on self-care, health and fitness, interpersonal skills, mobility and functional academics.

The facility boasts a state-of-the-art design to simulate a “Main Street” environment where students can practice and develop their community interaction skills. Some of the features on “Main Street” include a “Fun Zone” containing adaptive games and toys; a store; an apartment; a fitness center; and a library.

The open house is free and includes a continental breakfast. Topics will include an overview of the multiply disabled population; mobility training; medical concerns; and specialized services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, assistive technology and augmentative technology.
