ELIZABETH – Members of the SkillsUSA chapter at the Thomas Edison Career & Technical Academy demonstrated their American spirit by hosting a luncheon for a group of veterans.
Twenty veterans from the Menlo Park Veteran’s Administration health care facility were invited to the Jan. 30 luncheon which featured cuisine prepared and served by students in the Culinary Arts program under the supervision of teacher Paul Conte.
Students also presented the veterans with certificates honoring them for their service to America. The veterans represented several branches of the armed services.
Edison student Yanira Orange said, “I am so proud to be a part of SkillsUSA and to know that my team was able to do something nice for veterans.”
“The students who participated were proud of the success of their event,” commented Penelope Hudeen, teacher and advisor to the SkillsUSA group. “They were already thinking of ways to improve the luncheon for next year.”
Katelyn Hernandez, one of the SkillsUSA students said, “I can’t wait to do this again. Next time, we can make it even better.”
