Catarina Guimaraes, varsity sprinter

“As a freshman, Catarina has immediately stepped into a varsity role as a sprinter on winter and spring track and field teams. She gives 100 percent at every practice from start to finish. She sets a positive example for her teammates and is truly an inspiration to those around her.” — Coach John Schiano

What is your favorite part of girls winter track?
“The meets, because we all just kind of bonded and became closer.”

In what way has the sport benefited you?
“Sports helps with my cerebral palsy and it provides an outlet for any stressors in my life.”

What is your biggest challenge in track?
“Keeping up with the able bodies. I have a hard time sometimes keeping up with my peers.”

How do you get ready for a track meet?
“I have to do extensive stretching and dynamics before a meet.”

What’s your favorite memory of this season?
“During the 200’s. 200’s are really hard, but the team kind of bonded together to get through those sprints. I guess it takes a village to push through.”

Who are your favorite professional athletes?
“Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps and Sophie Hahn.”

What is your favorite subject in school?
“French. I love learning a new language.”

What other hobbies do you have?
“I love to read, write, swim and bike in my free time.”

What are your plans after high school?
“I want to go to the Paralympics and go to college, where I can run track. I also want to become a writer.”
