Arco Ensemble brings composer Cecilia McDowall to Enlow Hall on Oct. 27

UNION — Arco Ensemble will perform the American premier of Cecilia McDowall’s “Crossing the Bridge” for string orchestra at its first “Concert & Café” on Oct. 27 at Gene & Shelley Enlow Hall. The celebrated British Composer is flying in from London to attend the event.

According to Gramophone magazine, “Cecilia McDowall is another of the new generation of highly communicative musicians who favours writing which, without being in any way facile, is brightly cogent, freshly witty and expressive in its own right.”

McDowall was born in London in 1951, educated at Edinburgh and London Universities and was a prize-winning student at Trinity College of Music. She has a distinctive style that speaks directly to listeners, instrumentalists and singers alike. Oxford University Press has signed her as an Oxford composer.

The “Concert & Café” series is a new venture, started by the New Jersey-based virtuoso string orchestra, Arco Ensemble, in cooperation with Gene & Shelley Enlow Hall at Kean University. These hour-long concerts will be followed by light refreshment and informal discussion with the performers.

The concert, “A Taste of Britain” is comprised strictly of British compositions and will be led by the noted Scottish-American conductor, Stewart Robertson. McDowall will also be present after the concert to discuss her work.

Tickets to Arco Ensemble in Enlow Hall are $25 and include access to the post performance café with complimentary coffee, tea, Prosecco and light refreshments.

Tickets can be purchased by calling Kean Stage Box Office at 908-737-SHOW, online at http://EnlowHall.kean.edu or in person at Kean University’s Wilkins Theater Box Office located at 1000 Morris Ave. in Union.
