Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA helps prepare Seventh-Graders for healthy lifestyle with Health Bee

SCOTCH PLAINS — The Fanwood-Scotch Plains UnitedHealthcare Health Bee took place this past Tuesday at the Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA.

In the first picture from Tuesday’s event, Seventh grade students from Kumpf Middle School cheer after correctly answering a question in the second annual Health Bee at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.

The Kumpf Middle School team won first place and a $1,000 grant from UnitedHealthcare to support healthy programs that combat childhood obesity. From left to right: Christian Festa, Taylor Turek, Taylor Smith, Stephanie Campbell and Lauren Kelly.

Terrill Middle School won second place and the Spirit Award in the 2015 UnitedHealthcare Health Bee which tested students on their knowledge about nutrition, physical fitness and general health and science.

Incorporated into the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA’s 7th Grade Initiative, the Health Bee aims to help students develop healthy habits and attitudes during a critical time in their development.
