SUMMIT — Nolan Asch, a lifelong student of history, will speak to the Old Guard of Summit at its Tuesday, May 12 meeting. He will speak on “Winston Churchill, the Early Years.”
Asch is a member of several historical societies and has been a consultant for a coming Broadway show on historical themes. He will present the life of Winston Churchill in two installments. On May 12 he will focus on the early political life of Churchill. Churchill’s world view was formed in the last years of the nineteenth century.
Asch will describe Churchill’s travels to India, Sudan, the USA, Cuba and South Africa both as a correspondent and as a soldier. He will focus on Churchill’s role in WW I, especially regarding Gallipoli and the use of tanks. Churchill became an early opponent of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution in Russia. By 1933, he became obsessed with an even greater evil than Bolshevism.
All age 50-plus active men are invited to attend the Tuesday morning meetings of the Summit Area Old Guard. Meetings are held at the New Providence Municipal Center, 360 Elkwood Ave., New Providence. A coffee hour starts at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. business meeting brightened by singing and humor. The speaker begins at 10:30 a.m.
