LINDEN — Tiffany Alicia Concepcion, the woman suspected of causing an arson earlier today at an apartment building in Linden, has been charged with the following: aggravated arson (3 counts), aggravated assault (domestic violence), unlawful possession of a knife (domestic violence) and possession of a knife for unlawful purpose (domestic violence). The domestic violence charges stem from an alleged dispute which preceded the arson event.
Concepcion, 31, of Linden, is being held on $120,000 bail with a court date set for May 13. She will be transferred to the Union County Jail.
This morning, at 4:24 a.m., police responded to a fire at an apartment complex at 612 Ziegler Ave.
Officers spoke to a 32-year-old man who resides in one of the apartments who told them that he had a dispute with his girlfriend when he ran out of the apartment.
Minutes later, he observed smoke coming out of the apartment, and went back inside and tried to put out a small fire on his couch and stove. He suffered some smoke inhalation and was taken to Overlook Hospital for treatment by a Union County ambulance.
Two Linden officers on the scene also went into the apartment looking for any occupants and suffered minor smoke inhalation. Both were transported to Trinitas Hospital for treatment.
His girlfriend, Concepcion, was taken into custody by detectives and charges are pending against her.
The incident is still under investigation by the police and fire departments. The Union County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit is assisting with the investigation.
