LINDEN — Yesterday, at 8:02 p.m., officers responded to a three-story apartment complex on the 10 block of W. Elizabeth Ave. on a report of gunshots. Officers spoke to a second-floor tenant, who stated while she was sitting in her kitchen she heard a loud bang. She then observed smoke and dust coming from her ceiling and believed someone just fired a gun.
Officers went to a third floor apartment and spoke to a Michael R. Seaman, 33, the lone occupant and tenant, who would not initially open his door to speak to officers. He eventually allowed officers entry but denied any knowledge of the incident. While in the apartment, officers did observe narcotics and paraphernalia in plain view.
A subsequent search of the apartment turned up a 9mm shell casing, 200 folds of heroin, 4 bags of marijuana, narcotics paraphernalia, and a rubber-handled machete, however, a gun was not located.
Seaman was charged with distribution and possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, distribution of CDS within a school zone, and possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was being held at the Union County Jail in lieu of $65,000 bail with a court date set for Feb. 28.
The other tenant was not injured.
The investigation is continuing by detectives from the Narcotics Squad.
