Newark man arrested for murder of Elizabeth woman

NEWARK — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Acting Newark Police Director Sheilah Coley announced that Chancelle Young, 21, of Newark has been arrested for the murder of Shakerah McBride, 35, of Elizabeth.

McBride was fatally shot on Feb. 22 in the 300 block of 14th Avenue in Newark. Young is charged with murder and weapons offenses. Young was arrested yesterday. He is expected to be arraigned next Tuesday.

He is currently being held on $750,000 bail at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.

These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty in a court of law. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
