The Dayton football team forfeited its scheduled Saturday, Oct. 22 game at Roselle, it’s been reported.
Although Dayton has not issued the reason why yet, the guess here is that it’s probably a safety issue.
Group 1 Dayton is 1-5 and coming off a 47-0 home loss to Hillside last week. The Bulldogs were scheduled to play a Group 2 school for a second straight week and this time it was a Roselle team that is 6-0, averaging over 50 points and has scored at least 60 points three times, including its last two games.
Roselle’s last two games were 61-9 and 60-0 victories at New Providence and at Belleville.
“I can’t comment,” Dayton head coach Dominic Cuniglio said Friday, Oct. 21. “The only person that can is Superintendent of Schools Michael Davino.”
Belleville is coached by Cuniglio’s younger brother Mario Cuniglio.
Roselle began the week with the most power points in Central Jersey, Group 2. Next month the Rams will seek to reach their first state championship game and only fourth in program history since 1990.
Roselle’s bye week is next week, so the Rams will not play again until Nov. 5 at home vs. Group 1
