There is Union County representation in nine of the 14 finals bouts,
the exceptions being 106, 138, 152, 170 and heavyweight. All of the above 28
wrestlers have already qualified for the NJSIAA Tournament. What’s at stake –
in addition to Region 4 titles – is a possible higher seed for the states.
Roselle Park senior Mark Montgomery, as the top seed, defeated second-seeded Phillipsburg senior Travis Jones 6-4 at 132 pounds in last weekend’s District 13 final at Phillipsburg. They meet again in the 132 pound Region 4 final at Union, Montgomery the top seed and Jones the second seed once more.
Union County vs. Union County matchups include second-seeded Gabriel Leo of Roselle Park vs. top-seeded Patrick Phillips of Brearley at 113 and second-seeded CJ Composto of Westfield vs. top-seeded Eddie Hummel of Roselle Park at 126.
All 14 top seeds advanced to the finals. No wrestler seeded below 3 advanced to the finals.
