UNION, NJ — Following its tradition of spotlighting local Union businesses, the Township Committee recently named Hollywood Florist and Greenhouse Inc. the January Business of the Month.

“We are extremely proud to be called home by such a distinguished business,” said Union Mayor Manuel Figueiredo. “Not only are they family owned for almost 100 years, but they are extremely active in the community.”
As part of the monthly spotlight, each chosen business is presented with an award from the committee and their business is highlighted as part of the televised committee meeting.

The Glaser family has owned the property at 1700 Stuyvesant Ave, Union, since 1915 and established Hollywood Florist, Inc. in 1926. It is the oldest retail floral business in Union and has been family owned and operated since its inception.

The company was established by Frederick Glaser at the age of 17 with the help of his mother, Marie Glaser. Starting with a small shack and single cart drawn by a horse, Frederick built the business to include several large greenhouses and floral departments, and enjoyed a booming presence in the industry.

Frederick’s son Gerald carried the torch for many years and Gerald’s children are now running the shop and continuing the early tradition of providing exceptional floral services seven days per week, 365 days per year.

Hollywood specializes in custom sympathy arrangements, garden-center product and wedding designs. They pride themselves on their longevity, affordability and customer service.

Hollywood makes charitable contributions to various non-profit organizations, and donate services to many local causes.
