HILLSIDE — A Hillside woman has been indicted on charges she stabbed an acquaintance to death earlier this year, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park announced Friday.
On Friday morning a Union County grand jury returned a three-count indictment against Ebony Harris, 24, who is charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree possession of a weapon.
The date was July 1, 2013 when an argument broke out between Harris and the victim, 49-year-old Yvonne Hogan, both of whom lived in the same apartment complex on the 1600 block of Maple Avenue in Hillside, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Albert Cernadas Jr., who is prosecuting the case.
When the argument became heated, Harris entered her apartment, grabbed a steak knife and stabbed Hogan multiple times in her upper body, Cernadas said.
Hogan was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead approximately 30 minutes later. Harris was arrested at the scene.
The investigation was jointly handled by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Hillside Police Department. Harris faces a minimum of 30 years in state prison if convicted.
These criminal charges are mere accusations. Each defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
