CRANFORD MALE ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Josh Cadet, varsity track

“Josh Cadet has set numerous school records, in both individual and relay events. Josh holds school records in the 55-meter, 100-meter, and 200-meter dashes and won a state sectional title in the 200-meter dash. Recently, he was honored by the USA Track and Field and was named the New Jersey 17- and 18-year-old Male Sprinter of the Year.” — Coach John Schiano

When and why did you get involved in your winter sport?
“I started running winter track when I was 13. I got into it because I just wanted something to do, I didn’t want to just sit at home and watch TV all day, but then I started to enjoy the sport.”

What do you most enjoy about the sport?
“I like that track is a sport where you don’t really have to think about anything, you can just relax and do well, unlike other other sports, like football, which I also liked playing, where you constantly have to think about the plays, so you know what you have to do.”

What are your track events?
“I am a sprinter and I run the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash.”

What have been your major athletic highlights or achievements so far this year?
“So far this year, I have received an award for my performance last year and I plan on having a successful season, as we begin to go to championship meets.”

Do you hope to improve on any specific skill?
“I hope to improve in everything I do, so that I can have a long, successful track career beyond high school.”

Outside of athletics, what do you like to do?
“Outside of athletics, I like to go out with friends and just hang out.”

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
“In 10 years, I see myself as a college graduate who has a successful career, or as an Olympic athlete.”
