Student athletes from a variety of schools throughout the State of New Jersey were recently honored at the 2nd Annual New Jersey High School Awards Dinner on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the Heldrich Banquet Center, located in New Brunswick. The dinner is sponsored by the Maxwell Football Club.
Over sixty years ago, the Robert W. Maxwell Football Club was founded by a group of sports enthusiasts who were also civic minded individuals. Its purpose is to honor local area high school and college football players and teams. To this day, the Maxwell Club continues to honor young men’s accomplishments both on the gridiron and in the classrooms.
Among the students that were honored for their athletic achievements was Ryan Baron, a football player at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark. At 6’5”, Ryan is an imposing figure as a standout two way lineman for the Crusaders. Ryan led an Offensive Line that averaged over 250 yards per game rushing. He was a two time AllMid-State, UnionCounty, and State Group performer. Ryan was also a high achiever in the classroom, earning Honor Roll marks in every marking period for all four years of high school. He also contributes as a member of both the Varsity Wrestling and Track teams at Arthur L. JohnsonHigh School. In addition, Ryan is also a member of the Crusader Athletic Leadership Council, Big Buddy Program, and volunteers for the Children’s Hospital and Harvest Fest.
Michael Mancino, Math teacher and Head Football Coach at ArthurL.JohnsonHigh School, had this to say about Ryan Baron: “Ryan has worked hard and has developed into a dominant offensive lineman for our football program over the last two years. His work ethic is second to none, not only on the football field, but in the classroom and throughout any endeavor that he partakes in. Although he will be missed, Ryan is sure to have continued success in his collegiate career, and the Crusaders wish him luck in all that he does in the future.”
