Brearley football downed at Belvidere 26-6 Friday night; Sophomore running back Primavera scores in 3rd quarter

Bears host Dayton Bulldogs next Friday night in battle of 1-2 squads

The Brearley football team’s attempt to win consecutive games since opening its 2011 season with two straight wins was thwarted by host Belvidere Friday night.

In Mid-State 38 Conference-Union Division action in Warren County, Brearley was defeated by Belvidere 26-6.

Both teams are now 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the Union Division.

Brearley head coach Scott Miller reported that the County Seaters, who snapped an overall three-game losing streak, led 13-0 at the half.

The visiting Bears got on the scoreboard in the third quarter when sophomore running back Anthony Primavera reached the end zone to make it 13-6.

Brearley lost at New Providence 34-14 in its first game before bouncing back with last week’s 33-13 home win over Bernards, which is 2-1.

Belvidere, now guided by first-year head coach John Constantino, opened with losses at South Hunterdon 17-7 and at home to New Providence 34-7.

Brearley will host Dayton next Friday night at Ward Field in Kenilworth. Dayton is 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Union Division.

Belvidere will play at Bernards next Friday night. Bernards is 1-1 in the Union Division.
