Four of Union County’s five undefeated football teams will seek to go 4-0 this week, beginning with Westfield and Rahway on the road Friday night (Sept. 30). Westfield is a heavy favorite to vanquish Watchung Hills, while Rahway is favored to halt Voorhees. Both Watchung Hills and Voorhees are 0-3.
Union, 3-0 like Westfield and Rahway, is off this weekend.
On Saturday (Oct. 1) Roselle (3-0) is at Hillside and Summit (3-0) is at Scotch Plains, which like Watchung Hills and Voorhees is winless in three games.
A big game at Williams Field Friday night pits Mid-State 38 Conference-Watchung Division teams Linden at Elizabeth, with the winner to even its record at 2-2 and improve its chances of qualifying in North 2, Group 5.
Also seeking to even its record at 2-2 on Friday night is last year’s North 2, Group 3 champion – Cranford. In another battle of 1-2 teams, Cranford will host North Plainfield, which is now guided by first-year head coach Mark Ciccotelli, who last year was Cranford’s highly-respected offensive coordinator.
Roselle Park is at Brearley Friday night in a battle of 2-1 Union Division teams, while Dayton seeks to get its first win Saturday at Pingry in a clash of 0-3 Union Division squads.
