The girls’ final is Friday night, Oct. 25 at 7:30 at Johnson High School’s Nolan Field in Clark. It pits third-seeded Westfield vs. top-seeded Cranford.
This is the first time since 2004 – when Gov. Livingston beat Cranford 1-0 – that Scotch Plains is not in the final.
The Raiders reached their first UCT championship game in 2005 and proceeded to make it to the title contest 14 years in a row.
From 2005 to 2018 Scotch Plains won the UCT 13 times, 10 outright and three shared in 2006, 2012 and 2017. The Raider record in the UCT final from 2005 to 2008 was 10-3-1.
Scotch Plains won the UCT four times in a row from 2005 to 2008, one of them shared, and nine times in a row from 2010 to 2018, two of them shared.
The only time Scotch Plains did not win the UCT crown outright or shared since 2005 was in 2009 when Cranford defeated the Raiders 1-0 on a penalty kick in that year’s final played at Johnson.
That was Cranford’s second UCT title. The first came in 2000.
Cranford lost to Scotch Plains 2-0 in last year’s championship game.
Westfield is in the final for the first time since 2017 when the Blue Devils tied Scotch Plains 1-1 to share the crown.
Westfield last won the championship outright in 2001 when it blanked New Providence 2-0 in the final.
Westfield has won the most championships with 20 titles, four of them shared. The Blue Devils won the first 12 UCTs and 15 of the first 16, all of them outright.
