Top-seeded Johnson and second-seeded Governor Livingston reached the softball Union County Tournament championship game after convincing semifinal victories posted at Linden on April 30.
Johnson, seeking its third title and first since 1981, ousted fifth-seeded Westfield 12-1. The Crusaders previously eliminated 17th-seeded Rahway 17-3 and eighth-seeded Brearley 6-4.
Johnson was also the top seed last year, but lost to Cranford 6-1 in the semifinals.
GL, which defeated Cranford 4-3 in last year’s championship game, handled Cranford once again, this time beating the sixth-seeded Cougars 10-2 in the semifinals. The Highlanders previously eliminated 18th-seeded Linden 12-2 and 10th-seeded Roselle Park 5-2.
GL was also the second seed last year.
The 41st annual softball Union County Tournament championship game – featuring six-time winner GL vs. three-time winner Johnson – is scheduled to take place May 14 at Kean University’s Cougar Field in Union.
As of Monday, May 2, no time for the game was posted yet.
