Cranford girls’ basketball has done well playing Roselle Catholic at RC

Undefeated Watchung Division teams meet Friday night at RC's gym

The Cranford girls’ basketball team definitely has Roselle Catholic’s number when playing the Lions in regular season games at RC.

Cranford has won at least its last four regular season games against Roselle Catholic at Roselle Catholic, including wins in the 2009-2010, 2008-2009, 2007-2008 and 2006-2007 seasons.

The teams will meet tonight for the first time this season, game time at RC scheduled for 7.

Both are in the Union County Conference’s Watchung Division in the same season for the first time, with Cranford moving up.

Both are 6-0 overall.

Both are 3-0 in the Watchung Division.

Roselle Catholic is coming off a big 61-54 home win over defending Shore Conference Tournament champion St. Rose of Belmar Thursday night.

Cranford has another big game Saturday at noon at home against Group 4 power North Hunterdon, which as of Friday sported a 6-1 mark.

Cranford has won at least its last four regular season games played against Roselle Catholic at Roselle Catholic going back to the 2006-2007 season.

Roselle Catholic was undefeated during the last three of those meetings, 8-0 in 2010, 9-0 in 2009 and 0-0 on Dec. 14, 2007 – Jackie Dyer’s first game as Cranford’s head coach.

Senior Jamie Webb (15 points) makes layup at buzzer for winning basket off assist from freshman Jess McCoy (11 points). RC won the first three quarters, but Cranford won the fourth 18-5. RC led 42-31 going into fourth. Roselle Catholic was 8-0.


2008-2009
Jan. 15, 2009: Cranford 44, RC 33 – regular season at RC
Roselle Catholic was 9-0 and won at Cranford 39-31 nine days earlier.


2007-2008 – Jackie Dyer’s first season as Cranford head coach
