LINDEN — On Saturday at 8:50 p.m., police responded to Kohl’s Department Store, 1901 E. Edgar Rd., Linden, on a report of a shoplifter in custody.
Linden Police Officers spoke to a loss prevention officer who told them she observed a woman allegedly remove a pair of costume jewelry earrings, valued at $5.99, from its packaging, and replace them with a pair of $100 sterling silver earrings, in the same packaging. She then paid $5.99 allegedly for the $100 earrings and was stopped and detained by loss prevention as she was exiting the store.
Adams told security that her name was Kim Small. She then showed them an identification card from the Morris County Board of Social Services which had a name of Theresa Adams. When security saw that the photo was of another woman, she then produced her Union County Corrections identification card.
Adams, of Linden, was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting. After her arrival at headquarters, she complained of feeling ill and was taken by the Fire Department ambulance to Trinitas Hospital for an assessment.
Adams was issued a summons with a court date set for Nov. 18 in Linden Municipal Court.
