Remembering Officer Robert Hand – 50 years later

Patrolman Robert F. Hand is remembered by the Cranford Police Department, his family, friends and the community on the 50th anniversary of his death. A decorated police officer, he died in pursuit of a suspect while on duty. He was instrumental in establishing the PBA collective bargaining unit, which then resulted in the first labor contract between policemen and the township. After his death, the PBA established the Robert F. Hand Memorial Brotherhood Award, which is given to the PBA member who best exemplifies the tradition of brotherhood for which Hand stood.
