Summit junior varsity boys’ soccer captures Union County Tournament championship

Hilltoppers boot Union 3-0 in Tuesday night's final at Johnson

The Summit junior varsity boys’ soccer team captured the Union County Tournament title Tuesday night at Johnson after blanking Union 3-0.

Summit reached the title contest as the second seed and along the way defeated 18th-seeded Roselle Park in the first round, seventh-seeded Plainfield in the quarterfinals, sixth-seeded Gov. Livingston in the semifinals and eighth-seeded Union in the final.

Union downed ninth-seeded Hillside in the first round, then knocked off top-seeded Westfield in the quarterfinals before eliminating fourth-seeded Scotch Plains in Saturday’s semifinal played on the Scotch Plains football field.

In Summit’s 6-0 home win against Roselle Park on Oct. 5, it was reporterd on www.summitsports.org that Patrick Gilbert scored twice and Andy Huertes, Stewart Salazar, Darryl Martin and Patrick Beljan once.

Salazar scored twice and Hunter Wyckoff, James Tully and Martin once in the 5-0 home win over Plainfield on Oct. 12.
