Hoops for Hope at Summit Saturday includes 2 boys’ and 2 girls’ contests

Summit, Roselle Park and Cranford basketball squads involved for a worthy cause

The 6th annual Hoops for Hope event at Summit High School is set for Saturday (Jan. 19), with plenty of quality boys’ and girls’ basketball games on tap.

The event will raise money for the Adrienne Reid Memorial Scholarship fund and for the Connie Dwyer Breast Center.

Over the past five years, Summit has donated $20,000 to local cancer related charities.

Here’s Saturday’s lineup:

AUXILIARY GYM

Roselle Park vs. Summit JV boys’, 2 p.m.

MAIN GYM

Cranford vs. Summit JV girls, 2 p.m.

Roselle Park vs. Summit V boys’, 3:30 p.m.

Cranford vs. Summit V girls’, 5:30 p.m.

As of Friday, varsity records included Roselle Park boys’ 2-10 and Summit boys’ 10-1, while Cranford girls’ were 10-3 and Summit girls’ 4-9.

The varsity girls’ game between Cranford and Summit is a Union County Conference-Watchung Division clash. Their first division meeting, which was at Cranford on Dec. 18, was a 56-33 Cranford victory.

The varsity boys’ game between Roselle Park and Summit is a UCC-Valley Division contest. Their first division meeting, which was also at Summit on Dec. 20, was a 69-48 Summit triumph.

Summit will be wearing pink jerseys and the teams ask that those in attendance wear pink to show their support.

Hoops for Hope will raise money through T-shirts, a bake sale and an auction with tickets to games, a variety of autographed items and a Baltusrol Golf Package.

Admission is free and donations are encouraged.

In last year’s Hoops for Hope, which was on Saturday, Feb. 18, Summit defeated Oak Knoll 46-38 in a UCC-crossover game two days before the Hilltoppers competed in the Union County Tournament semifinals.
