The defending boys’ soccer Group 1 state champion Brearley Bears will wrap their scrimmage schedule Aug. 31 at North Plainfield after having faced Governor Livingston on the road and Linden at home.
Brearley captured its second Group 1 state title outright last season, its third overall and its second in three years when it defeated Schalick 1-0 in November’s Group 1 state championship game at Kean University’s Alumni Stadium field in Union.
Five seniors off that team signed letters-of-intent to continue playing in college, including goalkeeper Juan Martinez at Berkeley College, twins Christian and Justin Estremera at Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham Park and Marc Cunha and Jake Santos at Kean.
Guided by longtime mentor Vincent McGowan, the Bears will open their 2016 season at home Sept. 8 vs. Roselle Catholic.
