While Dayton was the only Union County boys’ team to win in state tournament play Thursday night – the top-seeded Bulldogs needed overtime to thwart eighth-seeded Newark Vocational 73-67, winning overtime 14-8 in their North 2, Group 1 quarterfinal matchup – all four Union County girls’ teams that played were triumphant.
Governor Livingston and Cranford advanced to the North 2, Group 3 semifinals, while New Providence and Dayton advanced to the North 2, Group 1 semis.
On Saturday in North 2, Group 3 it will be seventh-seeded Chatham at sixth-seeded Cranford at 4 p.m. and fifth-seeded Mendham at top-seeded GL. In North 2, Group 1 it will be fifth-seeded Dayton at top-seeded Secaucus at noon and sixth-seeded Bloomfield Tech at second-seeded New Providence.
The Dayton boys’ will host fourth-seeded Dunellen Saturday in a North 2, Group 1 semifinal.
Boys’ teams that were eliminated Thursday included Rahway and Plainfield in North 2, Group 3 and Union Catholic in Non-Public, North A.
