Marvin A. Chimerane

Marvin A. Chimerane, former Bell Labs (Nokia) technician, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019, at the age of 90.
Marvin was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 27, 1929.
After graduating technical school in Brooklyn for watch making and watch repair, Marvin worked in Brooklyn as a watch repair technician.
Marvin joined the U.S. army in 1949, where he was stationed in Germany and worked in watch repair until returning to the states in 1953.
Marvin began work at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ in 1955, where he worked as a technician for 40 years. Being highly organized with extreme attention to detail and his ability to work intricately with minute items, Marvin worked on the technology that led to the long-life batteries that made cell phones, laptops, and tablets possible today. He had a very strong work ethic and for the majority of these years had perfect attendance. (Bell Labs later became Lucent and is now Nokia)
Even though Marvin was not an architect he designed his family’s home, including drafting the architectural blueprints and incorporating unique features. In addition, he was very industrious building items for the home in the work shop he created in the basement.
Marvin enjoyed outdoor activities as well. He and his son backpacked the entire length of The Long Trail (the whole length of the state of Vermont from the Mass. Border to the Canadian border). They shared this adventure for a couple of weeks each during 3 consecutive years. He also spent a great deal of time creating and participating in activities with both of his children over the years.
Marvin excelled at billiards, ping pong, chess, and was also a cycler. He was a member of the Toastmasters Club and also studied philosophy and humanistic psychology.
Marvin was married twice. First to Helen Chimerane from 1955 to 1978. He was married to Janet Beam from 1986 to 1999. Marvin was a complex person who did not care for much fanfare over himself.
Marvin is survived by his son, Gary Chimerane, who resides in Vermont, and by his daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Charles Bivona who live in Washington, NJ.
