Born in Berlin, Germany on September 8, 1926, Johanna Bimböse Truncale came to the United States as one of the first G.I. Brides of WWII. Johanna and Saraphino “Ed” Truncale married in Nürnberg and arrived in the United States on Valentine’s Day, 1947. Johanna and Ed raised their family in a landmark white house in Linden, NJ. Their truly inspirational love transformed and sustained one another through richer and poorer, sickness and health, sorrow and joy. Johanna was most proud of the successful marriages of her three children, and delighted in extending her love and care to her seven grandchildren as she witnessed each grow into adulthood.
Johanna moved to North Carolina in 2000 after the passing of her husband. She rejoined Ed on March 18, 2015. She is survived by her loving children Joanne and Paul Dreyer, Joe and Shirley Truncale and Ed and Kathy Truncale, and her grandchildren Dawn, Paul, Lindsay, Lauren, Joseph, Zachary and Morgan. All will miss her.
Johanna faced life’s challenges with courage, kindness, and dignity, earning her the love and respect of a wide community of family and friends. She was known as “Oma” to her grandchildren and many others who were touched by her warmth and generous spirit.
