Work was nearing completion last week at Tom Mahoney Military Park in Union. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 10 and 12 p.m. the park is located on the corner of Chestnut Street and Globe Avenue.
UNION — On Sunday, Nov. 10, at 12 p.m., Union will host a dedication ceremony for the Tom Mahoney Military Park, located on the corner of Chestnut Street and Globe Avenue; thus celebrating the life of a distinguished citizen of Union, and very honorable U.S. veteran, the late Tom Mahoney was one of New Jersey’s remaining few survivors of the historic 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.
Tom Mahoney’s Military Park is a partnership with the Veteran’s Alliance Committee and the Township of Union as a war memorial befitting the bravery and valor of our servicemen and women. This park will provide a place for quiet reflection and education as well as hosting patriotic events and holiday celebrations. The park will be a place of tribute where families of all veterans can purchase bricks to honor their fallen heroes and where flag poles stand tall to represent soldiers of all military branches including the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, and the Marines.
The Honor Guard and ROTC as well as the Township Committee and dignitaries are expected to be in attendance at this event, and a reading of Tom Mahoney’s personal speech written before his death especially for this ceremony, will be a final salute to honor serviceman and women.
