ELIZABETH — Union County Freeholder Chairman Linda Carter today announced the County’s fifth Annual Columbus Day Flag Raising event is set for Friday, Oct. 11, at 1:30 p.m. on the steps of the historic Union County Courthouse.
The keynote speaker, Frank Cipolla, is a radio and television broadcaster and author who has been seen and heard in and around New York City for more than 30-years. Frank began his on air career in the early 1980’s at several small radio stations in New Jersey including WJDM in Elizabeth. He then went on work as an anchor on the Soupy Sales Radio Show on WNBC-AM and on WFAN Sports Radio.
Speakers include: Italian American One Voice Founder Manny Alfano and One Voice Executive Board Vikki Miragliotta. One Voice is the nation’s largest Italian American anti-bias organization. Pete Capodice, former Union mayor and current Superintendent of the Union County Vocational Technical Schools, will also speak.
Speakers from UNICO include: District X Governor Courtney Villani; Scotch Plains President Geri Samuel; Plainfields’ President Jason Risoli; and Raritan Valley President Ed Danberry. UNICO is the nation’s largest Italian American service organization whose chapters and members engage in promoting and defending Italian culture and heritage, as well as providing scholarships, and engaging in community service and other philanthropic endeavors.
Freeholder Chairman Carter will host and emcee the event. The Courthouse is located at 2 Broad St. in Elizabeth at the corner of Rahway Avenue. In the event of rain, the program will be moved inside to the County Courthouse Rotunda.
UNICO District X and Plainfields’ UNICO work to organize and co-sponsor the event.
Italian-style refreshments will be served after the event in the historic Union County Courthouse.
Parking is available in the Midtown area at the J. Christian Bollwage Parking deck at Elizabethtown Plaza and Caldwell Place. A second deck is Elizabeth’s Parking Deck #6 on Jefferson Avenue and Dickinson Street.
