SUMMIT — The Summit Interfaith Candlelight Vigil will be held tomorrow, Dec. 14 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Central Presbyterian Church located at 70 Maple St., Summit.

Local interfaith clergy, the Union County’s sheriff, the mother of a child killed on a local playground and others will reflect briefly on the toll of gun violence. The Vigil ends with a group candle-lighting, remembering all those killed by gun violence.

Speakers at the vigil include the Rev. Vanessa Southern, senior minister of The Unitarian Church in Summit, Ralph Froehlich, Union County sheriff and Samuel Arnold, president of the Garden State Funeral Directors Association. Music will be performed by the children’s choir of Summit’s St. Teresa of Avila Roman Catholic Church and others.

The Vigil is sponsored by Summit Interfaith Council, NJ Million Mom March Chapters of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, NJ Residents for Action Against Gun Violence and Friends Against Violence Everywhere.

The anniversary vigil remembers the 20 first-graders and 6 educators shot to death on Dec 14, 2012, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The shooter also killed his mother and himself.

Free parking will be available at the parking deck on the corner of Broad Street and Summit Avenue.
