ROSELLE, NJ — The Roselle Board of Education welcomed one new member and two incumbent members at its annual reorganization meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
Leslie Ann Woody and incumbents Courtney Washington and Angela Alvey-Wimbush took the oath of office at the Abraham Clark High School auditorium for three-year terms. The three were elected in November.
These members join returning members Cynthia Atkins, Ieesha Turnage, Delores Perkins, France D. Cortez, Yessica Chavez and Gisselle Bond to complete the 2023 Board of Education.
Washington was nominated and unanimously reelected as board president for a third consecutive year, and Turnage was elected vice president, both for one-year terms.
“Serving as a school board commissioner is a significant charge and one we do not take lightly. We made history tonight; for the first time in Roselle’s history, the board of education is being governed by all women. I want to thank my fellow board members for once again reelecting me to serve as the board of education president, and I am looking forward to leading this year alongside eight dynamic women on our board,” Washington said. “I am proud of all of the work we have accomplished by working together to implement the five-year district strategic plan and cannot wait to continue to Move It Forward in 2023.”
The board of education and Roselle Public Schools administration expressed appreciation to outgoing member Rupert Pond for his dedication and service to the board of education.
“Thank you to Mr. Pond for being an important member of our board of education and helping to form the district’s strategic plan vision 2027,” said schools Superintendent Nathan L. Fisher. “Allow me to extend a big congratulations to our new and returning board members. I look forward to working with you to finish the second half of the academic year strong, as we focus on ‘Every Student, Every Day.’”
