Plainfield man indicted for alleged murder of infant son

ELIZABETH — A Plainfield man has been indicted on a murder charge in connection with the beating death of his infant son, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced yesterday.

A Union County grand jury returned the indictment against Michael Bell, 35, on Friday.

Bell’s 4-month-old son, Zion, was found seriously injured in a home on the 200 block of Lee Place in Plainfield on May 10, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Bruce Holmes, who is prosecuting the case. The infant was rushed to a local hospital but died three days later, Holmes said.

As the result of an intensive joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Division, NJ Transit Police arrested Bell on a bus bound for the Midwest on May 11 in Newark. He subsequently was transported to the Union County Jail.
