ROSELLE — The United Inter-Faith Council will hold their annual Crop Walk for hunger on Saturday, Oct. 5. The Crop Walk is an interfaith walk held throughout the nation that raises funds for the hungry throughout the world. The walk winds through Roselle and Roselle Park passing churches for rest steps. 25 percent of funds raised by the Crop Walk benefit the community where the Crop Walk takes place by supporting local food banks, pantries, community gardens and other hunger fighting initiatives.
After a short prayer at 9 a.m. the walk with start from First Presbyterian Church, Roselle, located at the corner of Chestnut Street & West 5th Avenue and passing through various churches. Each participant is asked to bring in a jar of peanut butter to be distributed to local food pantries.
The participating churches are: Roselle United Methodist Church and Community United Methodist Church, Roselle Park; Heard AME Church, Second Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church and R.C. Church of St. Joseph the Carpenter, Roselle; and the Morning Star Community Christian Center of Linden.
Students from various schools and the Rotary Club are also participating.
After the walk, light refreshments will be served at First Presbyterian Church in Roselle. Those who cannot participate in the crop walk may sponsor some of the walkers or call the First Presbyterian Church at 908-245-1611 or 908-241-0272 for more information.
